Air taxi from Volocopter, Germany
Volocopter VoloCitylaunch date, fares and status
After filing for insolvency in December 2024, Volocopter's business was bought in March 2025 by a subsidiary of China's Wanfeng group for about EUR 10 million and folded into Wanfeng-owned Diamond Aircraft. Volocopter now expects EASA certification of the two-seat VoloCity in 2027; in May 2026 pilots from German air rescue service ADAC Luftrettung flew a VoloCity under supervision for the first time.

Questions people ask
How much will a VoloCity ride cost?
Volocopter has not announced a fare, and no passenger service is scheduled yet.
When can you ride the Volocopter VoloCity?
Not yet. Volocopter says it expects EASA type certification for the VoloCity in 2027; an operator would then still need its own approvals before selling seats. Earlier plans to fly passengers at the Paris 2024 Olympics did not happen.
Do you need a pilot's license to ride the VoloCity?
No. The VoloCity carries one passenger next to a pilot who flies the aircraft for the operator.
Has the VoloCity actually flown?
Yes. The production-design VoloCity first flew uncrewed in December 2021 and with a pilot in April 2022, and it has flown many demonstration flights since. In May 2026, pilots from ADAC Luftrettung flew it under supervision as part of a new training and testing setup.
