| Vehicle | Price | Deposit | How to get one | License (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jetson ONE | $148,000 | $8,000 non-refundable down payment; $140,000 balance due when the aircraft is ready for delivery | Order now (new orders deliver 2028) | Jetson says its US version complies with FAA Part 103, which requires no pilot certificate, medical certificate or registration. |
| XPeng Aridge Land Aircraft Carrier | Under ~$300k (¥2M) | – | Pre-order (China only; no US sales) | Not applicable for now: it is not sold or approved in the US. |
| Pivotal Helix | From $190,000 | $9,000 fully refundable reservation, then a $50,000 deposit to enter production; final payment due at least five days before delivery | Pre-order | Pivotal says the Helix is an FAA Part 103 ultralight, so no pilot certificate, medical certificate or registration is legally required. |
| Alef Model A | $299,999 | $150 standard queue, $1,500 priority queue | Pre-order | Not yet settled: Alef has not published what owners will need, and the FAA has granted only a limited experimental certificate, to the Model Zero prototype; Alef's CEO has said he eventually hopes no extra license will be required. |
| ASKA A5 | $789,000 | $5,000 held in escrow; refundable, with ASKA saying refunds are paid one year after cancellation | Pre-order | Not yet defined: ASKA has not published owner licensing rules, and the A5 has no FAA type certificate; a driver's license would be needed for road use. |
| Samson Sky Switchblade | From ~$200k (kit) | Free reservation; $500 non-refundable deposit for an earlier delivery position; 50% down payment due after a test drive or flight | Pre-order | A private pilot certificate to fly, plus a driver's license or motorcycle license depending on the state. |
| Doroni H1-X | $400,000 (expected) | $1,000 pre-order; check Doroni's pre-order terms for refunds | Pre-order | Doroni says it is seeking FAA light-sport certification under the MOSAIC rule and expects owners to need a Sport Pilot certificate. |
| Volonaut Airbike | $880,000 | $2,000 non-refundable reservation; $80,000 deposit (refundable until the purchase is finalized); $798,000 final payment | Pre-order | Volonaut says no license is needed to fly the Airbike in the US because it is designed to meet the FAA ultralight rules (Part 103). |
| Tesla Roadster (flying car demo) | Not announced | Performance: $50,000 ($5,000 by card at once plus $45,000 within 10 days); Thrust: $250,000; Rocket: invitation only, no amount shown | Reserve the road trim; flying trim by invitation | None from the FAA, which says the car isn't an aircraft. |

Can you buy a flying car today?
Yes, in a limited way. 9 of the 22 vehicles we track take orders or reservations, and 1 has started deliveries; the rest are reservations for vehicles still being tested or certified.
Do you need a pilot's license to fly a flying car?
It depends on the vehicle. In the US, single-seat ultralights that meet FAA Part 103 limits need no pilot certificate; anything heavier, faster or with a passenger needs a pilot certificate, and a drive-and-fly car also needs a driver's license. Each model's page says what applies.
Are flying car deposits refundable?
Terms differ by maker and can change, so read the reservation agreement before paying. Check whether the deposit is refundable, whether it holds a delivery slot or only a place in a queue, and whether the final price is fixed.
We don't sell vehicles or take deposits, and we aren't paid by makers. Order directly with the maker after reading its terms.
