Air taxi from Wisk Aero, USA

Wisk Gen 6launch date, fares and status

Two Gen 6 prototypes are in hover and low-speed flight testing at Hollister, California (first flights on 16 December 2025 and 4 May 2026); a hover-to-wingborne transition had not been reported as of October 2026. On 10 August 2026 Archer agreed to acquire Wisk from Boeing, with closing expected by the end of 2026.

Certifying: in formal certification.

This aircraft won't be sold to individuals; you'll book a seat with an operator once service starts.

No service date has been set: Wisk has named Houston, Los Angeles and Miami as early U.S. markets and has talked about passenger flights later this decade, subject to FAA approval of pilotless passenger aircraft.

Key facts

  • Designed to carry passengers with no pilot on board; a ground-based supervisor oversees several aircraft at once, and a 2026 Wisk-NASA study found one supervisor could manage three.
  • Wisk says Gen 6 is its first aircraft in a formal FAA type certification project.
  • Wisk is the main eVTOL partner in Texas's federal eIPP project; it plans to fly conventional piloted aircraft on the routes first and bring in Gen 6 later.
  • Archer agreed in August 2026 to buy Wisk, Insitu and SkyGrid from Boeing for Archer shares; the U.S. antitrust waiting period expired on 18 September 2026.
  • Wisk broke ground on a test vertiport at Hollister Municipal Airport in August 2026.

Questions people ask

How much will a Wisk air taxi ride cost?

Wisk has not announced a fare. It has said it wants rides to cost about as much as ride-hailing, but it has given no figure and service is still years away.

When can you ride the Wisk Gen 6?

There is no date. Wisk has named Houston, Los Angeles and Miami as early markets and has talked about flying passengers later this decade, but the FAA has not yet finalized how it will certify a pilotless passenger aircraft. Archer's pending purchase of Wisk adds another open question about timing.

Do you need a pilot's license to ride the Wisk Gen 6?

No. There is no pilot at all: the aircraft flies itself while a trained supervisor on the ground monitors it and can step in.

Has the Wisk Gen 6 actually flown?

Yes, in early tests. The first Gen 6 hovered on 16 December 2025 and a second one first flew on 4 May 2026, both at Hollister, California. As of October 2026 testing covered vertical takeoff, hover and low-speed maneuvers; the switch to wing-borne cruise flight is the next step.
